This was the fourth version of the S-38 family, that began life in 1946, and has some notable design features. Firstly, it is the last of the series to feature the Loewy-designed half-round dials; Secondly, these dials are white-on-black instead of black-on-white/green and; Thirdly, the cases are now battleship grey instead of black.

Other than those cosmetic changes, and a few minor electrical differences, this set continues the trend.
