This lightweight set was intended to replace the earlier EC-1 model built by the Hallicrafters acquisition, Echophone. Strangely, it pre-dates the S-38 (despite the higher model number) and had a very short production run. Despite that, it is relatively common in both the 'G' (Grey) and 'W' (White) versions - each version has a different style knob. It is also unusual in having top and bottom removable covers to allow access to a chassis that is removeable only by undoing 4 mounting screws, unsoldering the 4 slide switches and dropping the volume and bandswitch controls!
