Using valves that the service data describes as 'American 7-pin "button" base', this Cossor set may well have been one of the first to use this type of valve - predating the Mullard 'D' series valve by a good few years and at a time when the industry was still using 2v filament octal based units.

The chassis appears to be sized to use a much larger valve, however - although a rather kludgy internal layout may have necessitated a roomier cabinet and chassis.

Despite this innovation, though, it is still a very bulky unit to be described as 'portable'. The case is of solid wood with devetail joints on the corners. The appearance is somewhat let down by the rather cheap and nasty looking carry handle and dour colouring of the unit.
